about

First and foremost we would like to thank the Creator for all
that he does and the many blessings he grants us everyday.
We are also very grateful to be sharing our style of music
with you and the rest of the world.

The Young Bear singers are a drum group deeply rooted in
the Mandaree community of North Dakota. Pow-Wow singing
is rich within the Young Bear family. The drum group started
with the sons of well-respected singers, Randy Phelan and
Sidrick Baker, Sr.. Both Randy and Sidrick have passed on to
us the tradition and knowledge taught to them by their
fathers, Alonzo Young Bear, Sr. and Bill Baker. The members of
Young Bear are the grandsons of the members of the White
Lodge Singers and the Mandaree Singers. We are another
generation of singers who are proud to come from
the Fort Berthhold Reservation.

The Phelan and the Baker boys have come together with their
drum brothers from across the USA and Canada to form the
Young Bear Singers. We formed in the summer of 99',
traveling as a youth drum group. In 2010 we decided to call
ourselves “Young Bear”, the name of our childhood drum
group. The Young Bear name originates in Mandaree and is
the family name that ties the Phelans and the Bakers together.
In both 2012 and 2014, Young Bear won the title of World
Champions at the Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow. In 2012,
we were the recipient of the Canadian Aboriginal Music
Award for Best Traditional Album.

The group has been very fortunate over the years and we
want to thank everyone who supported us.
